February 9th, 2010Beethoven’s 2nd
|
IMDB rating: 4.20 Plot: Beethoven is back, and this time, he’s bringing the kids! It’s the further adventures of the Newton family and their lovable, lumbering pal, Beethoven. In this second “symphony” of the Beethoven saga, our hero meets Missy, the lady Saint Bernard of his dreams. Unfortunately, they are soon separated by Regina, Missy’s hateful owner who is using her as a bargaining chip in an ugly divorce. But love finds a way, and the result is four adorable, roly-poly puppies. The prospect of four valuable, purebred pups appeals to Regina’s greed, but the Newton kids come to the rescue and bring home the cuddly canines. Now if they can just convince Dad to adopt the huge, messy bundles of joy . . . Mission accomplished! But Missy is still in Regina’s evil clutches. Will Missy, Beethoven and their puppies ever be reunited? And will Regina finally get what she deserves? |

Any calm or quiet piano works?
I’m currently working on Chopin’s Etude Op.10 No.1,Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata 2nd Movement,Bach Partita No.2 Sinfonia and Alkan’s Etude Op.39 No.9(More of a side study actually but it helps my technique here and there)to give you contributors a level of understanding of my current technique.
I’m considering learning Ornstein’s Solitude for piano but I want more suggestions on this kind of Classical music for piano.
Oh and preferably nothing by the more common composers(e.g Chopin)but if it fits the bill then I’ll give the piece a listen and decide.
Feel free to suggest anything that is calm and quiet.
Wow…Thanks for the list of works guys.
Oh and Alberich.Yes I did say feel free to suggest anything so I’ll give the Mendelssohn a listen too ^^

Beethoven’s Appasionata. I know at least one of the movements is very slow and pretty and calm.
Check out Claude Debussy, especially Suite Bergamasque(not sure of the spelling).
Claire De Lune is breathtaking. Arabesques: Arabesque No. 1 in E Major is also astounding.
Both are very peaceful and relaxing.

"TK" has posted a most impressive list. But, you stated "Feel free to suggest anything that is calm and quiet".
So, might I recommend a piece by Mendelssohn, though not originally composed for the piano, but orchestra? Don’t know whether you will seriously consider it or not; and also don’t know if there’s a transcription of it for the piano that is even available.
Anyway, it’s his "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage"; here’s the opening segment(couldn’t find videos of it in its entirety: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKo7gnGVA RU
He also wrote a set of very short pieces for the piano, entitled "Songs Without Words" which you might want to consider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYEggRrIH 50
