Flags of Our Fathers
Flags of Our Fathers (2006)

IMDB rating: 7.20

Plot: In February, 1945, one of the fiercest battles of the Pacific theater of World War II occurs on the tiny island of Iwo Jima. Thousands of Marines attack the stronghold maintained by thousands of Japanese, and the slaughter on both sides is horrific. Early in the battle, an American flag is raised atop the high point, Mount Suribachi, and a photograph of the raising becomes an American cause celebre. As a powerful inspiration to war-sick Americans, the photo becomes a symbol of the Allied cause. The three surviving flag raisers, Rene Gagnon, John Bradley, and Ira Hayes, are whisked back to civilization to help raise funds for the war effort. But the accolades for heroism heaped upon the three men are at odds with their own personal realizations that thousands of real heroes lie dead on Iwo Jima, and that their own contributions to the fight are only symbolic and not deserving of the singling out they are experiencing. Each of the three must come to terms with the honors, exploitation, and grief that they face simply for being in a photograph.

Have you been able to figure out what Flags of Our Fathers has done to improve America? If so, what?

He knows American History. Buchanan allowed States to secede from Northern Tyranny which was not illegal at the time. Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus and started an Illegal War that got 623,000 Americans killed. Libs whined like hell when Bush suspended Habeas Corpus to keep Terrorists held indefinitely.
Who is the real bad guy here? Abe Lincoln is the biggest War Criminal the USA has ever elected.
He ran Concentration Camps in the USA, the worst being Camp Douglas in Chicago (big surprise), Boston, and Elmira, NY, killing thousands of Americans who were fighting for the Constitution. Just because the North won doesn’t make them right. Immigrants were mustered into the Union Army as they stepped off the ship. The North had a greater population than the South to begin with. Guards at Camp Douglas were ordered to shoot any Black who fought for the South on sight.
You don’t know History or who was right when it comes to our Civil War. I am a registered Republican but vote for the most Conservative candidate.
The only reason the South did not win was because of two mistakes made at Gettysburg. Even though the South was greatly outnumbered they came that close. Don’t try us again.
The only problem I have with Flags of our Fathers is that one of the Flags is a 50 Star Flag. If he can find it I would suggest a Confederate Flag and a Betsy Ross Flag. Those are the true Flags of our Fathers. Those are the Flags I have flying outside my house and they will remain there until Obama is out of office.

What have any of us on here done to improve America??

I don’t agree with Flags of Our Fathers 99 out of 100 times, but I am not on here to change or improve anything - I am on here for entertainment and to debate others.

He’s an American who’s willing to voice his opinion. I don’t agree with his opinion most of the time. But at least he’s willing to exercise his right to free speech. It seems like anymore Americans are expected to just sit idly by and let the politicos do the thinking for us.

it happens about an hour after my breakfast in school and i eat a big bowl of porridge, im not even hungry when it happens i also get a bad pain too, could it be gas or something if so how do i get this to stop?

It’s probably indigestion. Take some Tums or GasX before you go to school.
Sounds are usually a sign of air in the digestive system.

is there milk in it? you could be lactose intolerent. my sister’s stomach doesn’t rumble, but like gurgles and that’s what my doctor said it could be. if it hurts and stuff and rumbles and has milk, that could definitely be it. go to your doctor maybe.

When I was younger we would go every year to the 3 or 4 blocks near this park to walk and look at the Christmas lights displayed on people’s lawns. AZ has a similar event called Glendale Glitters. Is there something near me (I’m in Garden Grove) or does this community still do the decorating?

YES!!! You can get the information on the net, may take you a bit, but it is there:)

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!!!

My wife and I are probably going to fly out to Florida next year to visit different areas to live. We’d like to be in between both coasts, very close to Disneyworld, and close to some of the bigger cities (Tampa, Orlando, etc). We have a 2 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. Windermere looks like a good school district area. Can someone out there tell me a bit more about the town feel? Would you recommend a better city/town to live in? Is Windermere is rural area? We can afford the houses in that area. What city would you live in near Disneyworld?

I just moved out of Windermere 2 weeks ago and moved to S Florida. There are 2 different parts to Windermere. There is the older town area which is primarily around the chain of lakes- Lake Butler, Lake Down etc. There are some houses there that are reasonably priced but they are mostly older homes and mansions around there. It’s a quaint area with a small town feel. Then there is the rest of Windermere which is the newer developments. They can vary in price from the mid-200’s to 1mill+ depending on the neighborhood. These are also places that have been hit very very hard with foreclosures and the home owners associations are very strict. Some of the neighborhoods are pretty far out into rural country but it’s really a very suburban feel to the area.

As for schools, the public schools in that area are all ‘A’ rated so they are the better schools in the county. However, in general Florida’s education system leaves a lot to be desired so keep that in mind.

As for being close to Disney. Windermere borders Disney property and in the neighborhood I just left we had a nightly fireworks show from the Magic Kingdom. Sounds good in theory but that novelty wears off and we were left with 12 minutes of having our house shook every single night of the year….with no exceptions.

Other areas to consider would be Clermont if you’d like a more rural town and Winter Garden. Both are within 20 min to Disney.

Good luck

you are so lucky to move to windermere, i love that town. soooo nice. the best place to live being close to disney, its not as crowded as orlando, but yet your still close to it. its not exactly rural, but it would be VERY reasonable to live there.. i wish i did.. but i live in los angeles.. oh well

if your moving to windermere make sure to get anual disney passes xD
sportsbabe23 | Jul 29, 2009

If you decided to live in Windermere, you would not be making a mistake. I lived there for 2 years and loved it. It has great schools, both public and private. It’s close to everything and they have just built a large shopping area a couple of miles away . They take pride in the community and it has a good reputation.

I now live in a place called Hunter’s Creek , half way between Disney and Orlando International Airport. It ’s alot like Windermere with great schools, community atmosphere, family activities, etc. It has different priced neighborhoods so people of all incomes can usually find a place to live. It is a great place to live and raise a family.

Dr PHILLIPS is also another area to consider. It also offers the same things as Windermere and Hunter’s Creek. It is located in the Universal Studios area, close to everything and offers many amenities.

I would recommend any of those areas and you would be very happy and proud to live there.

Good luck with the decision and the move.

Magic the Gathering: Question about Attacking Phase?
We’re playing a three person game. I attack one opponent with a Vampire Nocturnus and the other opponent with a Vampire Nighthawk. The Vampire Nocturnus give all vampires (including itself) Flying and +2/+1. The opponent I’ve attacked with the Nocturnus plays an instant that destroys the Nocturnus. Does the Vampire Nighthawk still retain it’s Flying and +2/+1 while attacking the other opponent and dealing damage?
I think everyone is missing the point of the question. I attack two players. One opponent kills my Nocturnus. Does my other attacking creature retain his +2/+1 and Flying since they attacked at the same time? Essentially, when attacking two opponents, does the attacking happen simultaneously?
And when I ask if the other creature retains his +2/+1 and Flying I mean for the current attacking phase that it is already engaged in. Obviously after the current attacking phase it does not retain the bonus from Vampire Nocturnus since it is in my graveyard.

The nighthawk does lose the ability, if nocturnus is no longer in play there is nothing to pump nighthawk.

SugarcubeJohnson | Nov 11, 2009

i am a beginner, but i read the effects, and my guess is that your creatures would no longer get the bonus because nocturnus is not on the field. isn’t that, well, kinda obvious?
J G | Nov 11, 2009

As soon as the Nocturnus is killed, it’s effect ends.

If the creature granting an ability is destroyed, that ability expires at the end of your turn.
