What is "Turkish Delight"?
I have heard of it on the chronicles of narnia: the lion the witch and the wardrobe. and I was just wondering what it is.

It’s not a Turkish fruit, it is a kind of sweet made with gelatin, colored and flavored, kinda like Jello but much harder, however not as hard as candy. It usually comes cut in squares and dusted in powdered sugar. It is eaten by itself or as a part of other desserts.

Here, I found a Wikipedia entry for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Del ight

I think it is Turkish fruit.
Mystry feeling crappy 2day | Feb 03, 2010

Turkish Delight (Lokum) or Cyprus Delight (Loukoumia) is a confection made from starch and sugar. It is often flavored with rosewater, mastic or lemon; rosewater gives it a characteristic pale pink color. It has a soft, jelly-like and sometimes sticky consistency, and is often packaged and eaten in small cubes dusted with icing sugar or copra to prevent clinging. Some types contain small nut pieces, usually pistachio, hazelnut or walnuts. Other common types include flavors such as cinnamon or mint. In the production process soapwort may be used as an additive, serving as an emulsifier.

It is a confection made from sweetened & coagulated (usually with gelatin) rose water.

Yum!

(Somewhere in your town is a store that sells "British candy", and they probably have a version of this called "Fry’s Turkish Delight" which is covered in chocolate…)

What would it take to change the bible? Why haven't they done it recently?
Why doesn’t some good Christian go in and change the bible and add some things that should be added. For example, the only line in the bible in regards to animal cruelty is Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.". But people seem to think its ok to abuse animals because of the other line about having "dominion" over them. Since we were supposedly put in this position of responsibility…wouldn’t it be common sense to assume that a good God would want us to behave responsibly and at least treat the animals humanely and kill them humanely? Why doesn’t one of these popes or people in christian authority, make a few revisions that obviously need to be made, to make the world a better place. It seems that a large majority of Christians follow the word in the bible, but don’t use their own morals to determine what is good or bad, and take things so literally. So somebody should put something in there to make it more clear to these people I think. Then start producing more bibles so after the present ones start falling apart, new ones will be produced.
"First, Christians believe the bible is the word of god. It’s an absurd belief, and they’re irrational for it, but it’s still a belief."
That’s the point I’m trying to make. They believe it’s the word of God, so why not do the world some good and sneak some changes into there, and say that its the word of God, so they follow those changes instead of such confusion in regards to animal abuse. Many of them choose to abuse animals because the "word of god" didnt make things very clear.
This is in regards to the animals skinned alive in the youtube "chinese fur farm" videos. 90% of the people I’ve seen who say it’s ok, use the whole "dominion" line in the bible as a reason why its ok to do that.
"That would not be the act of any "good Christian"."

So preserving the word of God is more important than saving lives or making positive changes in the world? This is exactly why it needs to be changed. Because people are brainwashed into not having individual morals and thoughts.

Christians have already made somewhere around three THOUSAND changes to their old testament from what the Jewish Torah has.

Isn’t that enough? These changes have caused the deaths of millions of Jews over the past 2000 years for refusing to go along with those changes.

P.S. As for animal cruelty, you need to remember that the written Torah is only an outline of Jewish law. It is not the body of it. The body of Torah is called the Oral Torah and it was finally written down during the Babylonian exile in order to keep it from being lost forever.

It teaches that cruelty to animals is forbidden. In Jewish households, we are to feed our animals before we feed ourselves.
If we see a donkey falling under its burden we are to go and help it, even if it is the donkey of an enemy of ours.

We are not to take eggs from a nest when the mother bird is there, lest we cause her anguish.

We are not to kill a baby goat in front of its mother, nor are we to cook it in its own mother’s milk, this is considered horrible animal abuse.

And then there are the Noahide Laws for Gentiles, of which one is "You shall not tear the limb from a living animal, to eat it." Why did they need this law from the Jews? Because it was a very common practice among the Gentile populations to do this to animals.

And there are many, MANY more laws concerning the forbidden aspects of cruelty to animals, in the Torah.

Even when we kill an animal to eat it, we are to use a knife to cut its vein in its throat, this knife cannot even have the teeniest of imperfections on it lest it catch on the animals throat and cause it pain. The Jewish method of killing an animal like this is virtually pain free- the animal basically falls asleep and dies without knowing what even happened.

And hunting except for food, is forbidden by the Torah.

So it’s interesting that you’ve missed all of this in your reading of the Jewish Torah, since you’re quoting Proverbs from our bible there. Perhaps you should next time ask a religious Jew about these things before posting misinformation - do a bit of research first.

And you may be interested to know that Judaism teaches that animals have souls.

Christianity does not.

Let me get this straight, you want someone to go and change the infallible word of god as recorded by bronze age goat herders.
You should check out the Jefferson Bible, if you want to read one that makes at least partial sense.
Science > Religion | Jan 29, 2010

It gets edited perodicaly to keep it up with the times . For instance Adam had a wife before Eve but old Lilith didn’t make it paste the censors cutting room floor .
Tom | Jan 29, 2010

If you’re serious, you’re an idiot. First, Christians believe the bible is the word of god. It’s an absurd belief, and they’re irrational for it, but it’s still a belief. Made-up rule will have no divine backing, thus no meaning.
Zack | Jan 29, 2010

They’ve been way too many changes already. There are more versions of Bible nowadays and every one of them is slightly different. I’d love to read the original Bible someday, but I guess it’ll never be found. Or if, they’ll hide it in the Vatican archives and never show it to anyone.

No offence, but aside of God, it’s true that the church has done a few things they wouldn’t like the people to know.
henusik | Jan 29, 2010

We are not supposed to make any changes to the Bible, especially not for animal rights. I understand that you are probably very involved in this but it wouldn’t make any sense just to make it different for that reason. If people think that they have the right to abuse animals just because of the "dominion" over them then they are just plain cruel and have a pretty messed up way of thinking.
Brandon | Jan 29, 2010

1) What would it take to change the bible?

The discovery of a document that at least one major sect believed to be authored by one of the Apostles or a divinely-inspired contemporary of the apostles.

2) Why haven’t they done it recently?

Because no new document of such pedigree has been discovered in the last 1800 years.

3) Why doesn’t some good Christian go in and change the bible and add some things that should be added.

That would not be the act of any "good Christian".

What do you think of this song?
You kissed me in the rain, by the weather vane, when I said I was in pain, but that all meant nothing. You said that we’d be closer, closer everyday, but we’d be closer to nothing, I’m better without you, I don’t need you anymore, we’re closer to nothing than each other. Don’t even think that you’re invisible, I saw you kissing her, she was not "all over you" I trusted you, I loved you, we were nothing, not a couple, you said you loved me; you said you meant it, you said it would pass and we’d be closer, closer…but we’d be closer to nothing, I’m better with out you, I don’t need you anymore, we’re closer to nothing than each other. I thought you were the one, but I was wrong, didn’t know how to say it, so I wrote this song, I’m over you, so move along. Move along. Move along. We’d be closer to nothing, I’m better without you, I don’t need you anymore, we’re closer to nothing than each other, yeah, we’re closer to nothing, I’m better without you, I don’t need you anymore, we’re closer to nothing than each other.
It’s not done yet. It’s written by me, Sapphire. I am a new 13 year old actress, singer, songwriter in Australia.

This is part 5, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Basic Black indeed, or perhaps white, for a blissful mockery of purity that most vampires have, mocking instead of avoiding, or at least, that should be their custom, should it not. I am interested to see what this child of Dracula and Harker’s wife shall do, for after all, she did return to humanity and maybe some of that lasted with her damned son, not to be trite, but maybe there is some hope for this oh, so sweet, doomed bride. So I ask, will they be playing the wedding march or "Pavonne for a Dead Princess?"

Evadne Soleil | May 23, 2008

Well for a vampire bride i would do veary dark red, black, ordark purple.
lyssie lou who | May 23, 2008

You have the answer in your title:
Basic Black.
Dondi | May 23, 2008

Deep colors… Dondi has a good idea but, wouldn’t that be a little expected? Vampires ALWAYS dress in black and these poems show something that is not typical as many other Vamp-stories are today. If this was made into a film I would go with scarlet, violet and black… black DOES need to be included.

VIOLATION NOTICE! | May 23, 2008

I agree with Evadne Terra that this sweet maiden, this "NovelBride", should wear contemptuous white in the black wedding, perhaps with a bouquet of black roses. You are writing a prodigious and fascinating story with strength and clarity. I love the way you are using words. You are a wonderful poet and storyteller. Thank you.
AMY G | May 24, 2008

I don’t know, what are we going to do?
kidding?

Good poem.
If it were really a "vampire" wedding; maybe they’d want deep, crimson colored flowers. It might remind them of blood and make them want to taste each others’ lips more, or something…
Black seems depressing for a wedding… sounds like a fun idea, anyway… i guess.

(I really liked your series of poems. A lot of unique word choices. You told an intriguing story.)

Gandhi (1982)

IMDB rating: 8.20

Plot: When ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ (qv) first set foot in British India, he had already been to Britain and South Africa, and had created quite a stir for the betterment of the people. But in India, he realized that he had first to live the life of a peasant to understand what it is to be an Indian. This resolve will lead him to shed his westerners clothing, and don a simple loincloth, be subjected to racial slurs from none other than Winston Churchill (Half naked Indian Fakir); Mobilize awareness of local industry and less dependence on imported clothing and material; the historic dandee march for withdrawal of the salt tax; a fast unto death to stop the virtual slaughter of British troops by irate Indian mobs; and be imprisoned several times. His resolve was to work with stalwarts such as Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Sardar Valabhbhai Patel, Professor Gokhale, J.B. Kripalani, Maulana Azad, and Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru to ensure first of all to get the British to quit India, and then run an Indian Government under the Congress party. Gandhi will soon realize that it is not enough to be just an Indian, for India has many facets - Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, and Christian. The British relied on these many facets as an excuse for their continuance as they wanted to ensure that the minorities are not oppressed by the Hindu majority. Concerned over the inroads made by Gandhi to unite the Hindus, Muslims, and all others under a common umbrella, the British invited Jinnah for talks, and it is here that a seed was laid for a separate country called Pakistan. When Gandhi came to know about this, he pleaded with Jinnah to unite the Muslims, even take over as the first Prime Minister with his choice of Muslim candidates for Parliament, but separatist Jinnah had already made his mind. The World Wars of 1914 and 1944 having taken it’s toll on Europe and Britain in particular, the weary British finally decided to leave India in 1947 - not the India they had conquered - but an India that was ready to be divided in East Pakistan and West Pakistan. Now after the much awaited independence was the real test for Gandhi - a test that will make him or break him - as he started a fast unto death to try and stop the violence that was threatening to break out into a civil war, not realizing that he had indirectly fanned Hindu extremism, which would later be called the Shiv Sena, into taking the matter directly in their hands to ensure that Muslims are kept out of their Hindustan forever.
