What would it take to change the bible? Why haven't they done it recently?
Why doesn’t some good Christian go in and change the bible and add some things that should be added. For example, the only line in the bible in regards to animal cruelty is Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.". But people seem to think its ok to abuse animals because of the other line about having "dominion" over them. Since we were supposedly put in this position of responsibility…wouldn’t it be common sense to assume that a good God would want us to behave responsibly and at least treat the animals humanely and kill them humanely? Why doesn’t one of these popes or people in christian authority, make a few revisions that obviously need to be made, to make the world a better place. It seems that a large majority of Christians follow the word in the bible, but don’t use their own morals to determine what is good or bad, and take things so literally. So somebody should put something in there to make it more clear to these people I think. Then start producing more bibles so after the present ones start falling apart, new ones will be produced.
"First, Christians believe the bible is the word of god. It’s an absurd belief, and they’re irrational for it, but it’s still a belief."
That’s the point I’m trying to make. They believe it’s the word of God, so why not do the world some good and sneak some changes into there, and say that its the word of God, so they follow those changes instead of such confusion in regards to animal abuse. Many of them choose to abuse animals because the "word of god" didnt make things very clear.
This is in regards to the animals skinned alive in the youtube "chinese fur farm" videos. 90% of the people I’ve seen who say it’s ok, use the whole "dominion" line in the bible as a reason why its ok to do that.
"That would not be the act of any "good Christian"."
So preserving the word of God is more important than saving lives or making positive changes in the world? This is exactly why it needs to be changed. Because people are brainwashed into not having individual morals and thoughts.
Christians have already made somewhere around three THOUSAND changes to their old testament from what the Jewish Torah has.
Isn’t that enough? These changes have caused the deaths of millions of Jews over the past 2000 years for refusing to go along with those changes.
P.S. As for animal cruelty, you need to remember that the written Torah is only an outline of Jewish law. It is not the body of it. The body of Torah is called the Oral Torah and it was finally written down during the Babylonian exile in order to keep it from being lost forever.
It teaches that cruelty to animals is forbidden. In Jewish households, we are to feed our animals before we feed ourselves.
If we see a donkey falling under its burden we are to go and help it, even if it is the donkey of an enemy of ours.
We are not to take eggs from a nest when the mother bird is there, lest we cause her anguish.
We are not to kill a baby goat in front of its mother, nor are we to cook it in its own mother’s milk, this is considered horrible animal abuse.
And then there are the Noahide Laws for Gentiles, of which one is "You shall not tear the limb from a living animal, to eat it." Why did they need this law from the Jews? Because it was a very common practice among the Gentile populations to do this to animals.
And there are many, MANY more laws concerning the forbidden aspects of cruelty to animals, in the Torah.
Even when we kill an animal to eat it, we are to use a knife to cut its vein in its throat, this knife cannot even have the teeniest of imperfections on it lest it catch on the animals throat and cause it pain. The Jewish method of killing an animal like this is virtually pain free- the animal basically falls asleep and dies without knowing what even happened.
And hunting except for food, is forbidden by the Torah.
So it’s interesting that you’ve missed all of this in your reading of the Jewish Torah, since you’re quoting Proverbs from our bible there. Perhaps you should next time ask a religious Jew about these things before posting misinformation - do a bit of research first.
And you may be interested to know that Judaism teaches that animals have souls.
Christianity does not.

Let me get this straight, you want someone to go and change the infallible word of god as recorded by bronze age goat herders.
You should check out the Jefferson Bible, if you want to read one that makes at least partial sense.

It gets edited perodicaly to keep it up with the times . For instance Adam had a wife before Eve but old Lilith didn’t make it paste the censors cutting room floor .

If you’re serious, you’re an idiot. First, Christians believe the bible is the word of god. It’s an absurd belief, and they’re irrational for it, but it’s still a belief. Made-up rule will have no divine backing, thus no meaning.

They’ve been way too many changes already. There are more versions of Bible nowadays and every one of them is slightly different. I’d love to read the original Bible someday, but I guess it’ll never be found. Or if, they’ll hide it in the Vatican archives and never show it to anyone.
No offence, but aside of God, it’s true that the church has done a few things they wouldn’t like the people to know.

We are not supposed to make any changes to the Bible, especially not for animal rights. I understand that you are probably very involved in this but it wouldn’t make any sense just to make it different for that reason. If people think that they have the right to abuse animals just because of the "dominion" over them then they are just plain cruel and have a pretty messed up way of thinking.

1) What would it take to change the bible?
The discovery of a document that at least one major sect believed to be authored by one of the Apostles or a divinely-inspired contemporary of the apostles.
2) Why haven’t they done it recently?
Because no new document of such pedigree has been discovered in the last 1800 years.
3) Why doesn’t some good Christian go in and change the bible and add some things that should be added.
That would not be the act of any "good Christian".
